Allstate Medicare Supplement Review: Is It the Best?

Allstate Medicare Supplement Review: Is It the Best?

Allstate, a brand name most of us know and trust, now offers Medicare Supplement plans.

It's one of the more competitive options available on the market in 2024, so we thought we'd do a full review.

Here's everything you need to know about Allstate Medicare Supplements, including if it might be the best carrier for your insurance needs.

What is an Allstate Medicare Supplement?

Allstate offers Medicare Supplement plans, which are designed to fill in the coverage gaps of Original Medicare.

As an example, Original Medicare may only pay 80% of your medical bill. Your Medicare Supplement could pick up the remaining 20%. That's oversimplified, but hopefully that helps you understand the general concept.

Medicare Supplement plans are standardized by the federal government, so the plans offered by Allstate are the same plans offered by other carriers.

That's right – the same exact benefits are offered by other companies. It pays to shop around, and Allstate is quite competitive with their pricing, depending on where you live.

Allstate Medicare Supplement Plan Types

Allstate offers Medicare Supplement Plans A, F, G, and N. Here's a look at what benefits come in each plan option.

*Plans F & G offer a high deductible plan in some states.

**Plan N pays 100% of the costs of Part B services, except for copayments for some office visits and some emergency room visits.

Note that you cannot purchase Plan F if you became newly eligible for Medicare after January 1, 2020. If you're aging into Medicare now, Plan G or Plan N are our top recommendations.

How does an Allstate Medicare Supplement differ from other Medicare Supplements?

While Medicare Supplements offer standardized coverage, there are a few areas where plans can differ.

Allstate Medicare Supplement Rating

Allstate Medicare Supplement has an A+ Rating from A.M. Best. This rating stands for Superior, and it's one of the highest ratings you can achieve.

This essentially means that Allstate is very financially secure, which can be a great feeling if you choose to buy a policy from them.

But for all intents and purposes, it really doesn't impact your Medicare Supplement coverage, and we rarely factor in the A.M. Best Rating when evaluating all of your options.

Underwriting

Underwriting is a series of health questions asked on your insurance application. If you cannot pass underwriting, you could be denied coverage.

Each company has their own set of underwriting questions, though they are very similar from company to company.

If you're signing up for Medicare for the first time, you won't have to worry about underwriting. However, if you're considering switching plans, you will. We can take a look at Allstate's underwriting and see if you can pass their health questions.

But in reality, you don't need to worry about your health status or acceptance – that's what we're here for! We can help you find a plan that fits your needs and budget, and you may not even have to answer health questions after all.

Price

The other key difference between Medigap carriers is how expensive their plans are. Allstate offers competitive pricing. In fact, in many areas, Allstate has the lowest premiums among all of the available options!

Pricing is different from county to county, so please reach out to us and we can provide you with no-obligation, no-cost quotes.

Discounts

Where Allstate really stands out from the crowd is their discounts!

They offer a Multi-Discount Program, which is very unique. You can stack up to 25% off your monthly premium.

Here are the available discounts from Allstate:

  • Roommate Household Discount: 7% or Dual Applicant Household Discount: 10%
  • Annual Pay Discount: 10%
  • Activity Tracker Discount: 5%

Is Allstate a good Medicare Supplement option?

At Senior Allies, we try to avoid generalized statements about coverage options. There are simply too many variables and different situations to take into account when considering your Medicare Supplement options.

What is great for one person might be the exact opposite for their spouse or neighbor, which is why we run a personalized quote for each and every client.

What we will say is that Allstate is very competitive, and it very well may be the best option for your needs and budget.

No matter what your options are, we can help you navigate plans and find a great plan that meets your circumstances.
